WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FINISH IN THIRD PLACE AT HOFSTRA XC INVITATIONAL
Bethpage, NY (9/4/10) The Dominican College women's cross country team finished in third place among Division II and Division III teams that participated in the Hofstra Cross Country Invitational held at Bethpage State Park.
Dominican recorded 25 team points to finish behind St. Joseph College (14) and Molloy College (19). Queens College took fourth place with a team score of 48 points.
The annual invitational took on a different look in 2010 as the meet became a 2x6000m relay meet. In this format, schools had several two-runner teams with each runner completing 6K in alternating 3K legs.
The Dominican duo of Samantha Klunk (York, PA) and Sarah Dugandzic (Suffern, NY) were DC's top finishers and they finished in ninth place overall and third in the Division II and III standings. Freshman Jessica Avila (Mount Vernon, NY) and sophomore Julia Miller (Mount Vernon, NY) took 13th place overall and sixth place in the Division II and III standings, while freshman Keyla Cruz (Bronx, NY) and Amanda Castro (New Rochelle, NY) finished in 27th place overall and 16th in the Division II and III standings.
The team of sophomores Imani Cooper (New Rochelle, NY) and Sharrika Brent (Brooklyn, NY) took 31st place overall and 20th place in the Division II and III standings to round out the team scoring.
Dominican is back in action next Saturday when they will participate in the Fordham Fiasco which will take place at Van Cortland Park.
