2011 Dominican College Volleyball Summary
The women’s volleyball team finished the season with an overall record of 18-14 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 13-6. DC finished in second place in the CACC North Division and thus earned the second north seed in the conference tournament.
In a CACC quarter-final match, the Lady Chargers fell to Wilmington University, the third seed in the South Division, 3-1 to end their season. Dominican had season series sweeps over Bloomfield College and rival Nyack College. The team also had a great, 3-1 victory over eventual CACC Champions, Caldwell College, at the Hennessy Center.
Junior outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti led the team in kills this season for the third consecutive year. She earned All-CACC First Team honors, ranking in the top five in the conference in kills and kills per set. She was named the CACC Player of the Week twice this season. Fiorvanti also recorded her 1,000th career kill this year.
Junior libero Jordyn Fuller also earned All-CACC First Team accolades, leading the team for the third consecutive year and finishing second in the conference in digs. She also was second in the conference in digs per set. A two-year captain, Fuller tallied her 1,000th career dig this season.
Junior setter Whitney Ranger was named to the All-CACC Second Team for the second straight season. She led the team in assists for the third time in her career and ranked second in the conference. She also finished third in the conference in assists per set.
Courtney Heard finished second on the team in kills, while freshman Kayla Dexter had a fine rookie season as she led the Lady Chargers in blocks and finished third in kills.
Dominican will lose one player, Ashley Evdokimo, to graduation this season. The team will return their starting rotation in 2012 and will look to have another successful season.
