WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (11/6/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22) sweep over the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (11/6/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22) sweep over the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Before the match, Dominican honored seniors Kerianne Dudley, (Nanuet, NY), Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) and Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY).
The Lady Chargers never trailed in the first set as they quickly gained a 7-3 advantage. GBC came back to tie the set at 7-7 and later at 15-15, but DC rallied with a 10-1 run, with Giordano serving the last seven points, for the 25-16 win.
Down 3-1 in set two, Dominican regrouped with a 9-3 run to take a 10-6 lead, but later saw the set tied at 13-13. An 8-2 run by DC gave them a 21-15 advantage and they never looked back en route to the 25-21 set two win and 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, GBC held an 11-6 lead but DC outscored their opponents 11-4 over the next 15 points to take a 17-15 lead. Later tied 22-all, Dominican took advantage of two attack errors and a kill by Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) for the 25-22 win and 3-0 match victory.
Fiorvanti led all attackers with nine kills on the day, while Smith finished with six kills. Rookie Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL) tallied five kills for a .625 attack percentage and 16 assists, while Giordano had a team leading seven defensive digs.
With the victory Dominican improves to 16-16 overall and finish the season with a 13-6 CACC record.
DC will be back in action on Tuesday night at the Hennessy Center as they will host a CACC Tournament Quarter-Final Match on Coach Baxter Court at 7pm.
