LADY CHARGERS RALLY FALLS SHORT TO WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (10/16/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit but fell short in the decisive fifth set, 15-12, to lose to the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 12-15) this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (10/16/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit but fell short in the decisive fifth set, 15-12, to lose to the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 12-15) this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Wildcats never trailed in sets one and two as they built up 8-3 and 9-3 leads respectively en route to 25-21 and 25-18 wins and take a 2-0 match lead.
Dominican answered back in set three as they held a 14-9 lead and later extended the lead to 18-12. Leading 22-20, both teams exchanged points to make the score 23-21 and a kill by sophomore attacker Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) put the Lady Chargers at set point, 24-21. A DC service error pulled WU within two points, but a Wildcat serving error gave Dominican the 25-21 win.
Knotted 13-13 in the fourth set Dominican went on a 7-1 run behind a four point service run by sophomore Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) and a three point run by Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) to take a 20-14 and never looked back en route to the 25-21 win and tie the match at 2-2.
The teams battled back and forth with four ties in the fifth set with the last tie seeing the score 10-10. Back-to-back DC attack errors gave Wilmington a 12-10 advantage, before a Kerianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY) kill cut the lead to 12-11. The last four points of the match were all scored on attack errors that saw the 'Cats win 15-12 and take the 3-2 match victory.
Fiorvanti led three Lady Chargers in double figures for kills with 14. Heard tallied 11 kills, while rookie Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL) had 10 kills. Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had a match leading 39 assists, while Fuller finished with a team leading 21 defensive digs.
With the loss Dominican now stands at 12-13 overall and 9-3 in the CACC.
DC faces off against Post University in a CACC match scheduled for 7pm on Monday on Coach Baxter Court.
