FIORVANTI NAMED VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
New Haven, CT (10/11/10) Michelle Fiorvanti of Dominican College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 10. Leanna Lillge of Philadelphia University picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.
New Haven, CT (10/11/10) Michelle Fiorvanti of Dominican College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 10. Leanna Lillge of Philadelphia University picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Fiorvanti, a 5-9 sophomore from Commack, N.Y., led Dominican to a 3-0 week with averages of 4.00 kills per-set with a .288 attack percentage, along with 0.45 blocks and 0.91 digs per-set. She recorded a season-high 23 kills in a 3-1 win over Bloomfield and added 13 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 win over the University of the Sciences.
Lillge, a 5-10 freshman outside hitter from Ixonia, Wisc., averaged 3.45 kills and 4.18 digs per-set in a 2-1 week for the Lady Rams. She recorded 11 kills and 21 digs in a 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill and added 21 kills and 14 digs in a non-conference loss to Millersville.
Honorable Mention
Moana Masoniai, Nyack (Jr., Waikhu, HI) - Averaged 5.3 kills and 2.2 digs in a 1-2 week. Had 26 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over Nyack.
Titilola Alao, Caldwell (Jr., MB, 5-11, Ossining, NY) - Averaged 3.12 kills at a .293 attack percentage last week.
Danielle Carney, Philadelphia (So., OH, 5-10, Thousand Oaks, CA) - Posted 2.45 kills and 3.64 digs per-set in three matches last week.
Stacey Wooden, USci (So., L, 5-6, Levittown, PA) - Averaged 7.2 digs per-set and claimed a school record for digs in a 4-set match with 36 vs. Dominican.
Team Notes
Bloomfield - The Lady Deacons went 2-1
on the week, winning both legs of their Saturday tri-match against
Goldey Beacom College and Mercy College. Da'Cheray
Thomas finished the win against Goldey with a team-high 10
kills, while Uerequenia Pereira led the way in the
win over Mercy with 13. Suzy Zanette posted 12
kills, 12 digs and four aces in the win over Mercy.
Brittany Devries led the defensive effort,
registering 32 digs over the two-game stretch.
Caldwell - The Cougars saw their nine-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss at Molloy on Thursday. Junior middle blocker Titilola Alao had 13 kills in the loss. Caldwell kept its CACC record spotless with a 3-1 victory over visiting Holy Family on Saturday. Sophomore right side Amber Mosher led the Cougars with 14 kills, while freshman middle blocker Kasey Bausch notched six total blocks. Caldwell, which remains the only unbeaten team in CACC play, hosts Bloomfield, Dominican and Philadelphia this week.
Dominican - The Lady Chargers are currently riding a six-match win streak.
Felician - Junior Megan Delamater has become Felician's career record holder for service aces with 78.
Georgian Court - The Lions welcome Chestnut Hill and Holy Family to the GCU Wellness Center this Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Philadelphia - The Rams went 2-1 last week, including two sweeps. The Lady Rams rank first in the CACC South Division with an 8-1 record. Upcoming matches for next week include: Wilmington University (10/12), Caldwell College (10/16) and Georgian Court University (10/18).
USciences - Sophomore Stacey Wooden (Levittown, Pa.) set a school record for most digs in a four-set match with 36 against Dominican Saturday. She also owns the school record for most digs in a single match with 48 (5-sets) vs. Phila. U earlier this year. Wooden also moved into 10th place on the Devils all-time digs list, recording her 600th career dig in the second set against Dominican – her 36 digs in the match give her 617 for her career. Senior Christine Puschak (Leola, Pa.) played in her 100th career match on Thursday against Wilmington, becoming just the eighth player in school history to do so – Former Four-time All-CACC libero Claire Tauschek is the Devils all-time co-leader with 117 matches played along with Michelle Hogga. In the most recent NCAA statistical rankings, senior Cady Rich (Shelton, Conn.) ranked 11th in blocks/set (1.23) and Wooden is ranked 33rd in digs/set. (5.03). The Devils as a team are ranked 12th nationally in aces/set (2.49) and 60th in blocks per set (2.0). The Devils are home this week for a non-conference match against West Chester University on Tuesday and a CACC crossover contest against Concordia on Saturday. In between the two home matches is a road match against CACC southern division rival Philadelphia University on Thursday.
