VOLLEYBALL LOSES TWO AT UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT TRI-MATCH

Bridgeport, CT (9/18/10)  The Dominican College women's volleyball team suffered two non-conferences losses in a tri-match hosted by the University of Bridgeport this afternoon.  DC lost to the host, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 9-25) and to Southern Connecticut State University, 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 7-25).

In the loss to Bridgeport, sophomore setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) led the team with seven kills, 15 assists and three service aces.  Freshman Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL) added four kills, while N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, NY) led the team with 12 defensive digs.

Dominican rallied to win the first set against Southern Connecticut State after trailing 19-11.  An 8-0 tear by DC tied the set 19-19 and later tied 20-20, Dominican score five consecutive points to take the 1-0 match lead.  However the Owls answered back to take the next three sets and 3-1 match victory.

Sophomore Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) led the team with 10 kills in the loss, while Ranger had six kills and 27 assists.  Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) led the team with a season high 24 defensive digs.

Following the losses Dominican now stands at 5-10 overall.

DC is back in action on Monday when they return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a road match at Post University.  Game time is set for 7pm.
