WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAY TO 3-3 DRAW WITH HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (9/12/09) The Lady Chargers soccer squad rallied from a 3-0 deficit to play to a 3-3 double overtime tie with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer action at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Orangeburg, NY (9/12/09) The Lady Chargers soccer squad rallied from a 3-0 deficit to play to a 3-3 double overtime tie with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer action at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
The Tigers got on the board in the 29th minute of action as sophomore forward Dawn Curry (Pennsville, NJ) netted the goal off the assist from sophomore Lindsay Fisher (Oakford, PA).
Most of the scoring occured in the second half as Holy Family took a 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute on a goal by senior Ashley Antczak (Westville, NJ) off the dish by Kathryn Helkowski (Lebittown, PA). Freshman Megan Tole (Philadelphia, PA) put the Tigers up 3-0 as she converted a penalty kick at 62:59.
The Lady Chargers answered back with three straight goals, as freshman defender Nicolle Sanchez (Lyndhurst, NJ) netted back to back goals in the 63rd and 66th minute of action on two shots from the 40 yard line after Tiger fouls to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Senior midfielder Margaret Porter (Neptune, NJ) netted the game-tying goal and her fourth of the season at 82:22 off the assist from sophomore Julia Camp (Middletown, NY) to knot the game at 3-3.
Both teams had advantages in the overtime periods as the Tigers had two in the first overtime and DC had three in the second but were unable to convert as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
Dominican outshot Holy Family 20-15, while the Tigers held a 12-9 advantage in corner kicks.
Lady Charger goalie Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) made five saves, while Tiger goalie Michelle Giambrone (Barrington, NJ) had nine saves in the tie.
With the tie Dominican now stands at 1-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they host Concordia College in a CACC game at the DC Soccer Field. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
