WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO #17 WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY
West Chester, PA (8/28/09) The Dominican College women's soccer team opened up the 2009 season with a loss to West Chester University, ranked 17th nationally in the NSCAA coaches pre-season poll, 4-0 this afternoon in a non-conference game.

The Golden Rams attacked early as junior Heather Manorek (Pottstown, PA) netted a goal off the dish by sophomore Tara Malkiewicz (Forked River, NJ) at the 1:25 mark. Manorek tallied her second goal at 23:46 off the assist by Sarah Oswald (MaCungie, PA).
Less then a minute later freshman Jen Gangl (Wayne, PA) gave WCU a 3-0 lead with her first goal of the season off the pass by junior Jessica Bennett (Littlestown, PA). A converted penalty kick by Bennett at 50:56 ended the scoring as the Golden Rams went on to the 4-0 victory.
WCU controlled the offensive end of the game, outshooting DC 25-1 and had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
Senior goalie Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had 10 saves for the Lady Chargers in the loss.
With the win WCU improves to 1-0, while DC falls to 0-1 on the year.
Dominican is back in action on Wednesday, September 2nd when they travel to Pace in a non-conference game. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
