HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY DEFEATS LADY CHARGERS SOCCER TEAM, 5-1

Blauvelt, NY (10/6/07)  The Holy Family University women's soccer team defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 5-1 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer play.

Holy Family University opened up the game with four consecutive goals before the 25th minute of play to take a 4-0 lead.  Kelly Spross (Philadelphia, PA) started off the run with a goal at 3:45 off a pass from Kaitlin Gavaghan (Philadelphia, PA)Gavaghan followed with a goal of her own at 9:50 off the double pass from Jennifer James (Philadelphia, PA) and Spross as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Jillian Shank (Philadelphia, PA) netted an unassisted goal at 18:28, followed by Ashley Antczak's (Westville, NJ) goal off the pass by Rachel Kletzman (Philadelphia, PA) at 22:31 for a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Lady Chargers got on the board early in the second half as Michelle Cusano (Stony Point, NY) netted a goal off the pass by Erin Martin (Stony Point, NY) at 42:53 to make the score 4-1.

Junior Jamie-Lynn Wallace (Bensalem, PA) rounded out the scoring for Holy Family University with a goal at 49:25 off another pass by Gavaghan en route to the 5-1 victory.

Charger starting keeper Rosa Centurion (Mamaroneck, NY) had two saves in 22:31, while Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had four saves in 67:29 minutes of action. 

Tiger keeper Kelly McGrogan (Philadelphia, PA) had four saves in the win.

With the loss, the Lady Chargers drop to 3-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the CACC.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Bloomfield College at 4pm at the DC Soccer Field.
