Waterbury, CT (9/25/07) Freshman Mallorie Michalak’s tally in the 77th minute, gave the Post University women’s soccer team a 2-2 tie with Dominican College, on Tuesday afternoon, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at LaMoy Field.
The Eagles are now 1-7-1 on the season, and 1-1-1 in CACC play, while Dominican is 3-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference action.
Post struck first in the 26th minute, as freshman Rachel Shivers, who was an honorable mention, by the conference this week, play the ball on the end line. She sent a cross towards the net, and junior Jackie Sutton headed it in the back of the net for her second goal in as many matches.
Dominican knotted the score in the 28th minute, as Margaret Porter fed Marie Lamaida for the first of her two goals on the afternoon. Lamaida netted the Chargers second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute, after taking the ball away from a Post defender and putting it into the back of the net.
However, Post added the equalizer, when Shivers ripped a shot that bounced off the Dominican keeper and right to the foot of Michalak, for her first collegiate tally.
Dominican came right down, and had a chance to score, but the shot from Porter hit the crossbar keeping the game knotted at 2-2.
In the first overtime session, each team had a scoring opportunity, but could not muster enough offense. Dominican had three shots in the second extra session, but Post goalkeeper junior Morgan Luschenat made two saves, to finish with eight on the afternoon.
Dominican's Rosa Centurion stopped 10 shots on the afternoon.
Dominican out shot the Eagles 20-17, but Post held a 9-7 edge in the second half. Post enjoyed an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
