LADY CHARGERS SOCCER DEFEAT ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE, 5-1

Blauvelt, NY (9/15/07)  The Dominican College Lady Chargers soccer squad defeated the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 5-1 this afternoon in a non-conference game at the DC Soccer Field.

Dominican got on the board early, netting three goals in a ten minute time span.  Junior Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY), the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week, took a nice pass by midfielder Erin Martin (Stony Point, NY) to give DC a 1-0 lead at 10:56.  Senior Nicole Tatulli (Brick, NJ) got the rebound off a blocked shot and put it in the goal at 15:29 to extend the Lady Charger lead to 2-0.

LaMaida capped off the scoring in the first half with her second goal of the game at the 17th minute mark as DC went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, freshman Sierra Kader (Bethany, CT) got a cross pass by fellow freshman Kelly Wargo (Brick, NJ) and put it in the net as Dominican jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

The Spartans got on the board as senior Evana Fiore (Upper Saddle River, NJ) converted a direct kick at 65:48 to bring St. Thomas Aquinas within three goals.

The Chargers got the goal back as junior Angela Correia (Elizabeth, NJ) got a pass from freshman Margaret Porter (Neptune, NJ) and scored, lifitng the Lady Chargers to the 5-1 victory.

Spartan keeper Jeannette Gibson (Haverstraw, NY) had seven saves in the loss, while Lady Charger keeper Rosa Centurion (Mamaroneck, NY) had one save in the win.

With the win, Dominican improves to 3-4 overall, while the Spartans fall to 2-6.  The Lady Chargers out shot the Spartans 22-5.

Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference game.  Game time is 4pm.
