DOWLING GOLDEN LIONS TURN BACK LADY CHARGERS SOCCER, 6-0

Courtesy of the Dowling College Sports Information Department

Oakdale, NY (9/6/07)   The Golden Lions fired in five goals in the first half in only 22 minutes to sweep the Chargers of Concordia this afternoon in a non-conference game.  The 6-0, victory improves the Golden Lions overall record to 4-1 and drops the Chargers to 1-4 on the season.

In record time, the Golden Lions opened the scoring in the first half when Lauren Carbonaro (Massapequa Park, NY) dished the ball off to Sabrina D'Aprile (East Patchogue, NY) at the top of the box with only 25 seconds shaved off the clock.  D'Aprile beat the goalie to the left side of the net to record her third goal of the season and Stephanie Cotter (Ridge, NY) received a pass from Kristin Cipriano (Islip, NY) just outside the 18 yard line to bury the ball in the back of the net just 10 minutes into the half.

Five minutes later, the forward tandem of Vanessa Moreira (Selden, NY) and D'Aprile struck again with a give and go up the center of the field to notch the ECC Player of the Week, Moreira, with her 5th goal of the season.  Freshman, Cassandra Cronin (Islip Terrace, NY) netted her second goal of the season three minutes later when she received the ball from D'Aprile up the left side of the field to beat her defender and blast one over the goalies head to the far right post.  At 22:18, Maria Saitta (New Hyde Park, NY) cushioned the Golden Lions lead to five with a far shot on the right hand side of the field to end the first half scoring.
