MERRIMACK WARRIORS TURN BACK LADY CHARGERS, 6-1
Blauvelt, NY (9/1/07) The visiting Warriors of Merrimack College defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 6-1 this afternoon at the DC Soccer Field in a non-conference game.
Caitlin Hall (Westminster, MA) opened up the scoring off a corner kick by Jennifer Conway (Douglas, MA) just two minutes into the game. Julie Anderson (Middletown, RI) and Jackie Vickers (Norwell, MA) followed with back to back Warrior goals at 12:40 and 39:18 to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers got on the board in the 41st minute of play when freshman Kelly Wargo (Brick, NJ) connected on a shot past keeper Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, NJ).
Merrimack continued to control the ball in the second half, adding three more goals by Jesse DeGraan (Braintree, MA), Gabrielle Grampey (Brackton, MA) and Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton, CT) for the 6-1 victory.
Merrimack dominated the game, out shooting the Lady Chargers 27-7.
Rowan had three saves in 59:48 minutes, while Liz Matts (Guilford, MA) played the final thirty minutes. Conway finished the game with two assists.
DC keeper Rosa Centurion (Mamaroneck, NY) thirteen saves in the first half. Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had two saves and freshman Veronica Johnson (Mahopac, NY) came in to play the final eleven minutes of play.
With the win, Merrimack improves to 3-0-1, while the Chargers fall to 0-3.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they host New York Institute of Technology at 4pm in a non-conference game.
