Lady Chargers Soccer Defeat Mercy College Flyers, 1-0

Blauvelt, NY (9/11/06) The Dominican College women’s soccer team defeated the Flyers of Mercy College, 1-0 this afternoon in a non-conference game at the Dominican College Soccer Field.

Blauvelt, NY (9/11/06)            The Dominican College women's soccer team defeated the Flyers of Mercy College, 1-0 this afternoon in a non-conference game at the Dominican College Soccer Field.

 Both teams played scoreless soccer for most of the first half until Janet Mordeci (Pearl River, NY) broke away from the defense and gave a perfect pass to sophomore Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY) who put it past the diving keeper to lift Dominican to the 1-0 victory in the 42nd minute of play.

Flyers keeper Becky Pelo (Mexico, NY) had seven saves on the day, while Lady Charger keeper Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had one save.  The Lady Chargers out shot Mercy 13-3.

With the win Dominican improves to 2-4 overall, while the Flyers fall to 0-2 on the year.

Dominican is back in action on Thursday, September 13 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference game at 3:30pm.
