Dominican Advances to Semi-Finals of ECAC Tournament For First Time

Blauvelt, NY (11/11/04) Jill Smith (Port Jervis, NY) netted the game winning goal at to lead the Lady Chargers (14-5-2) to a 3-2 victory over CACC rival Caldwell College (11-8-2) in the quarter final round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament held at Dominican College.

Senior captain Margaret Denman (Stony Point, NY) netted the game’s first goal off the assist by fellow senior Keri Dugan (Florida, NY) early in the first half.

Sophomore Stacey Ryan (Mahopac, NY) followed suit with a goal nine minutes later off the assist by Smith to put the Lady Chargers up 2-0.

Caldwell fought back with a goal at 42:21 by Danielle Shovlin (Allentown, NJ) off the assist by Carla Bleiler (Egg Harbor, NJ) to make the score 2-1.

Lady Cougar Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela) tied the game at 2-2, with a goal off the assist by Renata Fonseca (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Smith’s game winning shot was off a direct kick after a Caldwell foul at 78:30. The victory advances the Lady Chargers into the ECAC Semi-finals for the first time in the history of the program.

The Lady Charger return to action on Saturday, November 13 when they take on another CACC rival Wilmington College in the Semi-Finals to be played at the University of Bridgeport at 1:30pm..
