Millersville, PA (9/2/05) Junior striker Kimberly Vitaccos five-yard header with 6:25 remaining in overtime was the game-winning tally for the New York Institute of Technology in a 2-1 triumph over Dominican College in the first game of the Fourth Annual Millersville University Womens Soccer Kickoff Classic Friday at Pucillo Field.
NYIT linemate Melanie Pinzon broke in down the right wing and crossed the ball to Vitacco, and her header went over the outstretched arms of Dominican keeper Sara Cordaro and into the upper net for the decisive goal.
The Bears (2-0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute on a 15-yard blast from sophomore midfielder Stephania Santoli. But Dominican (0-2) knotted the game, 1-1, late in the 56th minute when second-year Lady Charger midfielder Pamela Mertens converted a five-yard shot off a feed from Candice OBrien.
NYIT goalkeeper Jenna Ament recorded 10 saves to earn the victory. Cordaro notched 11 saves for Dominican.
On Saturday, NYIT will face host Millersville at 4 p.m., preceded by Dominican versus New Haven at 2 oclock.
