LADY CHARGERS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT OVER WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/13/13)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to five after defeating the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 14-6, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on the DC Lacrosse Field.

With the win, DC improves to 6-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

The Lady Chargers opened the contest with four consecutive goals to hold a 4-0 advantage with just under 25 minutes remaining in the first half.  A WU goal broke the run, but DC tallied two more goals before the end of the half to take a 6-1 lead at the break.

Dominican continued the run in the second stanza with two more goals in the first two minutes to extend the lead to 8-1.  The Wildcats had a 2-0 spurt to make the score 8-3 with 24:42 left in the second half, but the Lady Chargers put the game away with six unanswered goals to make the score 14-3 with 13:35 to play.

The 'Cats closed out the scoring with three straight goals for the final 14-6 score.

Freshman midfielder Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) led all scorers on the day with four goals for four points.

Attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) netted three goals and two assists for five game points, while Traci-Joan Muniz* (Middlesex, N.J.) recorded two goals and three assists for five points as well.

Emily Murray (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Gina Sparaco (Freeport, N.Y.) scored two goals each, with Murray recording an assist in the win.

Freshman attacker Amanda Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) had the other Lady Charger goal.

Goalie Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) had eight saves.
