LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE TOP CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/14/12) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team topped the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins, 14-8, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played on the DC Lacrosse Field. With the win, Dominican improves to 4-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while the Griffins fall to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in CACC play.

The Lady Chargers got on the board in the first twenty seconds of the game as freshman Gina Sparaco (Freeport, NY) scored an unassisted goal. Thirty-five seconds later, the Griffins tied the game. Dominican went on a 2-0 run with goals from Traci-Joan Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) and KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) to go ahead 3-1 with 24:35 left in the first half.
A CHC made the score 3-2 and Dominican came back with four unanswered goals to go up 7-2. Jentzen converted a free position shot and Allison Smithwick (Commack, NY) followed with her first goal of the game off the pass from Jentzen. Senior Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) scored a goal after the pass from Emily Murray (Oakdale, NY) with 6:36 to play before halftime. Attacker Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, NJ) closed out the run with a goal off the assist from Williams. A Griffin goal before halftime made the score 7-3.
Dominican opened the second half with two goals from Smithwick to increase the lead to 9-3 with 26:18 to. Sophomore Olivia Antonopoulos (Baldwin, NY) had an assist on the second goal. A 3-0 CHC run cut the lead to 9-6, but Dominican put the game away with a 5-0 run to make the score 14-6. Sparaco had two goals during the run, while Murray and Williams also had goals. Junior Elizabeth Schmidt (Montgomery, NY) closed out the run with her first goal of the game with 4:32 remaining. Jentzen also tallied an assist during the run.
CHC closed out the game with two goals for the 14-8 final score.
Goalie Veronica Iozzi (Chester, NJ) made 12 saves in 56:21 of action, while Dominique Labate (Bronx, NY) played the final 3:39.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Georgian Court University.
