WILMINGTON RALLIES TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Hillburn, NY (3/31/12) The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 15-13, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. With the loss, Dominican falls to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
DC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and led 4-1 with 18:13 remaining in the first half. The 'Cats answered back with seven consecutive goals to close out the first half and take a 8-4 lead.
The Lady Chargers began the second half, like the first, with three goals and outscored WU 6-1 over the first ten minutes of the second half to regain a 10-9 lead. A 2-0 spurt by the Wildcats put them ahead, 11-10, but Dominican came back with two straight goals to go up 12-11 with 16:27 to play.
Later tied 12-all, KC Jentzen (Nanuet, NY) scored a free position goal to give Dominican a 13-12 advantage with 14:13 to go, but Wilmington closed out the game with three unanswered goals for the 15-13 victory.
Both Jentzen and CACC Player of the Week, Allison Smithwick (Commack, NY), netted five goals a-piece in the loss.
Aubree Williams* (Great Meadows, NJ), Traci-Joan Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) and Lauren Arnone (Neptune City, NJ) accounted for the other Lady Charger goals.
Goalie Veronica Iozzi (Chester, NJ) made 10 saves.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they host Holy Family University.
