WOMEN'S LACROSSE CHARGE PAST POST UNIVERSITY
Waterbury, CT (3/20/12) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team won their first game of the 2012 season after charging past host, Post University, 21-7 this afternoon. With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 1-3 overall an 1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Waterbury, CT (3/20/12) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team won their first game of the 2012 season after charging past host, Post University, 21-7 this afternoon. With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 1-3 overall an 1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Dominican opened the game with two straight goals in the first 58 seconds of the game to take an early 2-0 lead. After an Eagle goal, the Lady Chargers went on the offensive and score seven unanswered goals to go up 9-1 with 16:15 remaining in the first half.
Post then went on a 2-0 spurt to make the score 9-3 and from there the teams traded goals to make the score 11-4 With just under five and a half to go before the intermission. Another 2-0 spurt by the Eagles cut the DC lead to 11-6, but Domincan closed out the first half with four consecutive goals to hold a 15-6 advantage at the intermission.
DC continued the scoring run with the first five goals of the second half to complete a 9-0 run and go ahead 20-6 with 23:36 remaining in the game. An unassisted Eagle goal made the score 20-7 and a Lady Charger goal with 4:16 left on the clock ended the scoring and gave DC the 21-7 victory.
Attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, NY) led all scores with a career high six goals and added three assists on the afternoon.
Aubree Williams* (Great Meadows, NJ), Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, NJ) and freshman Gina Sparaco (Freeport, NY) all tallied three goals a-piece in the victory, while Traci Muniz () and Emily Murray (Oakdale, NY) each added two goals.
Starting goalie Veronica Iozzi (Chester, NJ) made three saves in 27:36, while Dominique Labate (Bronx, NY) had one save in 32:19.
DC is back in action on Thursday when they host Georgian Court University in CACC action to be played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
