Philadelphia, PA (3/25/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team suffered a tough, 11-10, loss to host Holy Family University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at Tiger Field.
Philadelphia, PA (3/25/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team suffered a tough, 11-10, loss to host Holy Family University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at Tiger Field.
Holy Family opened the game with a 3-0 run when freshman Elizabeth Schmidt (Montgomery, NY) netted her fourth goal of the season with 20:10 remaining in the first half. Following another Tiger goal, sophomore Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) converted a free position shot to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
The Tigers then opened up a 8-2 lead with four consecutive goals before Schmidt tallied her second goal of the game. Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) netted a goal off the pass from Williams in the final twenty four seconds of the first half for a 9-4 Tiger lead.
DC opened the second half with two unanswered goals, one by Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) on a free position shot and Karlsen's second goal of the game to cut the Tiger lead to 9-6. A 2-0 Holy Family run rebuilt a 11-6, but DC recorded four straight goals to cut the lead to 11-10 with 0:58 seconds. Junior Jessica Bianchi (East Islip, NY) netted her first goal of the season to get the run going, followed by Heather Breittholz's (Wallkill, NY) first goal of the season with 8:11 to go.
Williams used a pass from Schmidt to score her second goal of the game thirty one seconds later and Karlsen completed the hat trick with her third goal with under a minute remaining in the game for the final 11-10 score.
Senior goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) recorded 10 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the CACC.
