WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY EDGES LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE
Hillburn, NY (3/15/10) The visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University edged the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 11-9 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

The 'Cats opened up the scoring as sophomore Kory Webster (Abingdon, MD) netted the game's first goal with 26:13 left in the first half. DC quickly answered back with a goal off the stick of freshman Elizabeth Schmidt (Montgomery, NY) who tallied her first collegiate goal.
The next three goals were all scored on free position attempts, as Wilmington player Danielle Niccolli (Sparrows Point, MD) converted an attempt and Lady Charger players Kimberly Nunez (Fair Lawn, NJ) and Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) each converted their attempts for a 3-2 Lady Charger lead.
Wilmington answered back with five straight goals to take a 7-3 lead with 21:37 remaining in regulation. Matos notched her second goal of the game off the assist by freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) to cut the deficit to three goals, but the 'Cats added a goal with to once again gain a four goal advantage, 8-4.
Dominican put together two consecutive goals with 17:23 and 16:43 left in the second half off the sticks of junior Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and sophomore Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) cut the WU lead to 8-6. Another 2-0 run, this one by the Wildcats, gave them some breathing room at 10-6, but two late DC goals within a span of 13 seconds once again cut the lead to two goals, 11-9.
Matos led all scorers with three goals, while Nunez and Williams finished with two goals each.
Lady Charger goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) recorded 14 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they travel to non-conference opponenet, Queens College.
