WOMEN'S LACROSSE TABBED FIFTH IN CACC PRE-SEASON POLL
New Haven, CT (2/25/10) Georgian Court University has been picked first in the 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Womens Lacrosse Pre-Season Poll. The poll was voted upon by the seven CACC head coaches. GCU claimed four first-place votes and was the CACC regular-season champion last season with a 10-0 record. Philadelphia University was picked first on two ballots to finish second in the poll, while Chestnut Hill College earned one first-place nod to finish third.

The poll was voted upon by the seven CACC head coaches. GCU claimed four first-place votes and was the CACC regular-season champion last season with a 10-0 record. Philadelphia University was picked first on two ballots to finish second in the poll, while Chestnut Hill College earned one first-place nod to finish third.
Georgian Court, which collected 46 points to top the poll, won a program-record 15 games (15-3) in 2009 and went through the regular-season conference schedule without a loss (10-0). However, the Lions succumbed to rival Philadelphia, 11-9, in the inaugural CACC Tournament Championship on GCU's home turf. Key returning players include first team All-CACC member Ryan McGrath, who led GCU with 47 goals and 77 points last season. Senior Natalie Bermudez was also a first team All-Conference pick while earning a spot on the IWLCA second team after contributing 44 goals and 11 assists. Senior first team All-CACC selection Angelica Gero is also back for the Lions and head coach Mike Migliorisi.
Philadelphia won the inaugural CACC Tournament last season by upending Georgian Court, 11-9. The Lady Rams were the No. 2 seed for the tournament after going 8-2 in conference play. The team finished the season 10-7 overall. Returning for the Lady Rams is senior goalie Katherine Sullivan, who was honored as the CACC Player of the Year in 2009. Also back will be sophomore Caribeth Shappell, who was named the 2009 CACC Tournament MVP. Senior captain and attacker Lauren Woodie, who had 19 goals, 27 points and 30 ground balls last season, will be back, along with first team All-Conference performer, Taylor Peltzer. Peltzer recorded 41 goals and 48 points last season.
Chestnut Hill will be led by first-year head coach Lesley Graham and the senior leadership of the Glass sisters. Carley and Maryanne combined for 128 goals and 67 assists last season. Fellow senior, Kera Cathel, will direct the defense as the Griffins aim for a repeat trip to the CACC Tournament. Chestnut Hill finished 9-8 overall last season and 6-4 in conference play to capture the No. 3 seed for the tournament.
The 2010 poll is rounded out by Wilmington University, Dominican College, Holy Family University and Post University. Post will be fielding a women's lacrosse program for the first
