WOMEN'S LACROSSE EDGES HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Hillburn, NY (3/24/11) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University, 15-14, this afternoon in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. Holy Family University falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Holy Family University falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Senior midfielder Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) led the team with four goals for four points, while junior midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) netted three goals and one assist for also four points on the day. Senior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) also tallied a hat trick with her first three goals of the season in the victory.
The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead with goals in the first three minutes of regulation, but the Lady Chargers charged back with consecutive goals within a minute of each other as Karlsen netted the unassisted goal and Williams converted a free position shot.
Another 2-0 spurt by Holy Family regained a 4-2 lead but freshman midfielder scored her third goal of the game with 14:27 left in the first half to cut the deficit to a goal (4-3). The Tigers netted another goal to go up 5-3, but the Lady Chargers rallied with three straight goals over a period of 2:44 to gain their first lead of the contest, 6-5, with 9:52 before intermission. Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, NJ) recorded her first goal of the game with an unassisted goal and Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and Kiernan followed with free position goals.
A 4-0 run by the Tigers regained a 9-6 lead, but with under a minute remaining in the first half, the Lady Chargers recorded back-to-back goals off the sticks of Karlsen and freshman Maggie Brocklebank (Long Branch, NJ) to make the score 9-8 at the break. Williams assisted Karlsen's goal, while Brocklebank converted a free position shot.
Down 10-8, the Lady Chargers went on a 3-0 run as Karlsen netted her third goal of the game and Fiorvanti converted her second free position shot to tie the contest at 10-10. Williams gave Dominican an 11-10 lead with her second goal of the game and sixth overall with 18:40 left to play.
With the score tied 11-all, DC netted two goals within about 40 seconds of each other as Williams found the back of the net off a pass from Traci Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) and Karlsen scored her fourth goal of the game with 14:16 on the clock and give Dominican a 13-11 lead.
Holy Family cut the lead to 13-12 and over the final 10:52 Kiernan netted her second and third goals of the game to hold off the Tigers 15-14.
Lady Charger goalie Amanda Caprio (Point Pleasant, NJ) made 11 saves in the win.
