WOMEN'S LACROSSE CHARGE TO VICTORY OVER PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, NY (4/10/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team charged past the visiting Rams from Philadelphia University, 14-9, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the DC Lacrosse Field.
DC broke open a 0-0 game with 16:12 remaining in the first half as midfielder Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) netted the unassisted goal. Dominican then went on to score three unanswered goals over the next 1:37 to take a 4-0 lead. Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) netted two goals, while sophomore Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) tallied the other goal.
The Rams answered back with three straight goals to cut the lead to 4-3, but a the Lady Chargers retailiated with two goals in ten seconds by Sarah Kiernan and Karlsen to extend their lead to 6-3. Philadelphia closed out the first half with two goals for a 6-5 score at the break.
Philadelphia continued on their run in the second with two goals to take a 7-6 lead with 23:36 left in regulation, but the Lady Chargers charged back with four consecutive goals to regain a 10-7 lead. Kiernan netted two goals during the run to complete the hat trick, while Karlsen and Matos, who also completed the hat trick, had the other goals.
A Ram goal made the score 10-8, but the Lady Chargers outscored the Rams 4-1 over the remaining 9:50 for the 14-9 victory. Kiernan, Matos and Karlsen had the Lady Charger goals, with Karlsen netting the final two goals of the game.
Karlsen led all scorers with five goals, while Matos and Kiernan each finished with four goals in the victory.
Lady Charger goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 13 saves in the win.
With the victory Dominican improves to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the CACC, while Philadelphia falls to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the CACC.
