WOMEN'S LACROSSE LOSE TO QUEENS COLLEGE

Flushing, NY (3/18/10)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to host Queens College, 18-16, this afternoon at Campus Field.

Junior attacker Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) opened up the scoring with her fourth goal of the season off freshman Elizabeth Schmidt's (Montgomery, NY) first collegiate assist just 2:27 seconds into the contest.  A QC goal almost three minutes later would tie the game at 1-1.

Midfielder Silje Karslen (Vernon, NJ) would but the Lady Chargers up 2-1 after converting a free position shot, but the Knights would answer back with two straight goals to take a 3-2 lead.  Sophomore Aubree Williams (Great Meadow, NJ) then led the Lady Chargers on a 4-0 run, recording three of them while sophomore Heather Wannamaker (Blauvelt, NY) netted her first goal to regain a 5-3 DC advantage.  Karlsen and freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) had assists during the run.  Queens went on to outscore Dominican 5-2 over the remaining 8:27 seconds left in the first half to tie the game at 8-8.  The two DC goals were scored by Karlsen and Williams.

The Knights opened the second half with two quick goals to go up 10-8, but Matos tallied a goal off Fiorvanti's second assist of the day to cut the deficit to a lone goal.  QC then netted three consecutive goals to rebuild a 13-8 lead, before Williams got her fourth goal of the game with 18:10 left in the second half on a free position shot.

A Queens goal put them up 14-10, but the Lady Chargers put together a 2-0 run on goals by Williams and Fiorvanti, her first collegiate goal, with an assist recorded for junior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) to trail 14-12.  Over the remaining 11:24 seconds, Queens bested Dominican 3-2 with both Lady Charger goals scored by Karlsen to go on to the 18-16 victory.

Williams led Dominican with a season high six goals, while Karlsen finished with four goals.

Dominican goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) recorded 13 saves in the loss.

Following the loss DC falls to 0-2 on the season.  DC is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wilmington University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.
