WOMEN'S LACROSSE SET PROGRAM RECORD WITH VICTORY OVER HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY

Orangeburg, NY (4/18/09)  The Dominican College Lady Chargers set a new program record for wins in a season after defeating Holy Family University, 20-14 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action from the DC Lacrosse Field.

The Tigers opened up the game with a goal in the first 54 seconds to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Lady Chargers answered back with two straight goals from sophomores Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) and Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) with freshman Nicole Trombetta (Ossining, NY) picking up an assist.

Holy Family tied the game with an unassisted goal from freshman Gina Mansi (Washington Township, NJ), before DC pulled away with a 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead.  The Lady Chargers went on to outscore the Tigers, 4-3 to head into halftime with a 10-5 lead.

The Tigers opened up the second half with a 2-0 spurt to cut the lead to 10-7, but Matos rebuilt a four goal lead after converting a free position shot.  DC out scored Holy Family 9-7 through the remaining 22 minutes as they went on to the 20-14 victory.

Mansi and Jennifer James (Philadelphia, PA) led the Tigers with five points each with Mansi netting five goals and James scoring four goals and one assist.  Freshman Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, PA) made 14 saves in the net.

Freshman Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) and Matos led the Lady Chargers with eight points each.  Williams finished with three goals and five assists, while Matos had a career high eight goals in the win.  Goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had nine saves in the win.

Dominican improves to improves to 3-9 overall and 2-9 in the CACC.
