WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY TURNS BACK LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE

New Castle, DE (3/28/09)  The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 22-14 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action.

The 'Cats opened up the first half with a 4-0 run when freshman midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) scored an unassisted goal to put DC on the board.  WU went on a another run, this time scoring three straight goals, until Dominican put together a 3-0 run themselves to cut the lead to 7-4.  Junior attacker Ashley Ordemann (Toms River, NJ) netted a goal off the assist by Maryanne Eaton (Rehoboth, MA) and Williams followed with two more unassisted goals.  WU outscored DC 7-4 in the final 17 minutes of the first half to take a 13-8 lead.  Williams and Ordemann each netted a goal, while sophomores Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) had the other two goals.

WU started off the second half with a 3-0 run before Williams netted her fifth goal of the game to make the score 16-9.  Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) and Ordemann added two more goals to cut the 'Cat lead to 17-11 with just under 19 minutes left in the game, but the 'Cats outscored the Lady Chargers 5-3 in that time for the 22-14 victory.

Williams led the Lady Chargers with seven points (6 goals, 1 assist), while Ordemann finished with four goals.  Goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 14 saves in the net.

With the loss Dominican falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the CACC, while Wilmington improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the CACC.
