CHESTNUT HILL GRIFFINS TURN BACK LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE

Philadelphia, PA (4/18/08)  The Chestnut Hill College Griffins defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 21-9 this afternoon in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action.

Just 26 seconds after the opening draw, junior attacker Katie Donovan (Conshohocken, Pa.) netted the first of her six scores putting Chestnut Hill College (4-9) up 1-0. Charger freshman midfielder Jessica Bianchi (East Islip, N.Y.) tied the affair a minute later, but the Griffins responded with the next eight scores of the contest. In the opening half, Carley Glass totaled three goals and two assists, while Maryanne Glass provided a goal and two helpers. Stanton contributed two assists as well, before scoring the first Griffin goal of the second half. Dominican College (1-9) received two late first half goals from freshman attacker Amanda Matos (Vernon, N.J.) and another from freshman midfielder Silje Karlsen (Vernon, N.J.) closing the Griffin lead to 11-4 at the break. 

Chestnut Hill College rifled off the first seven goals of the second half mounting an 18-4 advantage with 15:59 remaining in the contest. The Lady Chargers were able to cut into the Griffin lead toward the later end of the second half outscoring Chestnut Hill College 5-3 in the final 15 minutes of the game. In the end, junior goalkeeper Stephanie Jordan (Tylersport, Pa.) totaled ten saves and earned the win for the Griffins, as sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, N.Y.) took the loss for the Lady Chargers while making 13 stops. The Glass sisters deposited four goals apiece; Carley collected seven ground balls and three draws, while forcing three turnovers. Maryanne forced three turnovers while recovering two ground balls and two draws. Junior midfielder Stephanie Carlyle (Essex, Md.) scored twice in the contest placing her one-goal shy of her 100th career tally.

Offensively, Matos and Karlsen led Dominican College. Matos scored four goals in addition to collecting two ground balls and causing two turnovers. Karlsen netted three strikes and controlled five draws for the Lady Chargers. Defensively, sophomore defender Nikkia Greczynski (Saugerties, N.Y.) hustled to six ground balls and forced two turnovers, while sophomore Althea Chambers (Yonkers, N.Y.) collected four ground balls and caused four turnovers.
