LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE DROP SEASON OPENER TO MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE

Blauvelt, NY (3/8/08)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team dropped their 2008 season opener to host Manhattanville College, 15-6 this afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

The Valiants opened up the game with a 5-0 run and had a commanding 10-1 lead at the intermission.  Manhattanville built up a 10-1 lead in cruising to the 15-6 victory.

Cory Alcorn (Orangeville, Ontario) led the team with five goals and Abbe Grimes (Hamden, CT) added four goals and two assists for the Valiants in the win.

Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) each led the Lady Chargers with two goals.  Sara Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) and captain Meg Hesterberg (Windsor, CT) each netted the other two DC goals.  

Goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 14 saves for Dominican in the loss.  Valiant keeper  Kirstin Betsill (Parkton, MD) had eight saves in the win.

With the win, Manhattanville improves to 1-1 overall, while Dominican drops to 0-1.

The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Wilmington University.  Game time is 1pm in New Castle, Delaware.
