2012-2013 Dominican College Women's Basketball Season Summary
The Lady Chargers basketball team finished the 2012-2013 campaign with an overall record of 18-10 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 14-5.
The Lady Chargers finished in second place in the CACC North Division standings and earned the second seed in the North Division in the CACC Tournament. The Lady Chargers faced off against the third-seed in the South Division, the University of the Sciences, in the first round of the tournament. DC came away with the victory, 61-49 to advance to the semi-finals.
In the CACC Semi-Finals, Dominican fell to the overall top seed and eventual champions, Holy Family University, 51-67 to end their season.
Forward, KC Jentzen, paced the Lady Chargers with 14.5 ppg and 8.6 rpg. She finished fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, sixth in rebounds per game, seventh in total rebounds, steals and field goals and was ninth in scoring and points per game. For her efforts she was named to the All-CACC Third Team.
Senior guard, Lindsey Lopez, finished second on the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg. She led the CACC in three-point field goals made, was seventh in three-point field goal percentage, 12th in assists and points and was 13th in points per game. She earned All-CACC Second Team honors this season and was named the Dominican College women’s basketball Most Valuable Player for the second straight season. She also recorded her 1,000th career point this season. Lopez finished 21st in the nation in three point field goals made per game and in free-throw percentage.
Senior Bianca Harris finished with 9.5 ppg and 7.8 rpg. She ranked 31st in the conference in scoring and was 12th in rebounds per game. She was 11th in total rebounds, while sitting ninth for offensive rebounds and 14th for defensive rebounds. Harris earned All-CACC Honorable Mention accolades.
Sophomore LaShonda Hathorne averaged 8.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg, while senior Shannon Lavelle recorded 6.3 points per contest.
The Lady Chargers will say farewell to seniors: Lopez, Harris, Lavelle, Chelsea Aronica, and manager Schae Auffant. Aronica was the recipient of the Dominican College Women’s Basketball Coach’s Award.
DC will lose three members of the starting rotation in Lopez, Harris and Lavelle, but with the return of Jenzten and Hathorne should have another solid season under head coach, Bill Diener.
