BASKET AT THE BUZZER LIFTS GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE OVER DOMINICAN COLLEGE

(2/16/13) The Goldey-Beacom College Lightning scored a basket as time expired to lift them to a 61-60 victory over host, Dominican College, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the loss, Dominican falls to 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the CACC.

Before today's game, the team honored seniors: #1 Bianca Harris* (Teaneck, N.J.), #5 Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.), #10 Chelsea Aronica (Staten Island, N.Y.) and #32 Shannon Lavelle* (Floral Park, N.Y.).
GBC held a slight 24-22 advantage at the intermission after a close knit first stanza that featured four tied scores. The Lightning were ahead 24-18 with just over a minute left, but back-to-back layups from KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) cut the deficit two one possession at the buzzer.
The Lightning extended their lead to eight points, 32-24, early in the second half but DC turned the tables with an 11-2 run to take a 35-34 lead with 13:26 on the clock and would lead 41-35 with 10:46 remaining in the game.
Ahead 57-52 after five straight points from Lopez with 2:45 to go, GBC rallied with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 57-all and took a 59-58 lead with a little over a minute to play. Sophomore LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) scored a jumper in the paint with nine ticks left to give the Lady Chargers the 60-59 lead, but the GBC basket as time expired gave them the 61-60 win.
Hathorne led three players in double figures with 15 points (11-12 from the charity stripe).
Lopez netted 14 points, while Jentzen finished with 12 points and a game leading 13 rebounds.
The Lady Chargers wrap up regular season play on the road at Nyack College this coming Tuesday night.
