DEACONS DEFEAT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Bloomfield, N,J. (1/15/13) The Dominican College women's basketball squad lost to host, Bloomfield College, 56-54, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the Bloomfield Gym. Following the loss, DC stands at 9-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play and has their winning streak stalled at three games.

Bloomfield, N,J. (1/15/13)  The Dominican College women's basketball squad lost to host, Bloomfield College, 56-54, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the Bloomfield Gym.  Following the loss, DC stands at 9-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play and has their winning streak stalled at three games.

The Lady Chargers held a 3-2 lead early in the first half when a 7-0 run extended their lead to 10-2 with 16:26 to go.  Seniors Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.) and Shannon Lavelle* (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored six of the points off back-to-back three point baskets.

Later ahead 29-25, the Deacons came back with the final eight points of the first stanza to take the lead at 33-29.

Bloomfield led for most of the second half and was up 51-47 with 4:28 to play when the Lady Chargers charged back with five consecutive points to regain a 52-51 advantage with under two minutes to go.  With DC ahead, 54-53 after two shots from the charity stripe from LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) as there was about a minute left, the Deacons scored a layup on their next possession and ended their game with a free throw for the 56-54 victory.

Lopez led the Lady Chargers with 15 points.

Bianca Harris* (Teaneck, N.J.) had the game's only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Dominican is back in action on Monday, January 21st as they host Felician College at the Hennessy Center.
