WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHARGE PAST WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

(1/5/13) The Dominican College women's basketball team charged past host, Wilmington University, 86-65, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the WU Athletics Complex. With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats fall to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in the CACC.

With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats fall to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in the CACC.
Tied at 12-12 with under 13 minutes remaining in the first stanza, the Lady Chargers went on a 20-2 tear over the next nine minutes to go ahead 32-14, with the last nine points of the run all coming off three point buckets, two from Shannon Lavelle* (Floral Park, N.Y.) and one from Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.). DC went into the half with a 22 point advantage, 49-27.
Three players finished the first half in double figures in scoring as Lopez and KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) each had 13 points and Lavelle finished with 12 points (4-7 from the three point arc).
DC led by as many as 28 points in the second half en route to the 86-65 victory.
Lopez led all scorers with 21 points and added four assists.
Lavelle finished with 18 points, all from the three point arc as she went 6-11, and recorded five rebounds. Jentzen had the team's only double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
Nicole Welton (Southbury, Conn.) came off the bench to score eight points, while Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) grabbed a team high 11 rebounds and three steals in the win.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Monday night as they host Bloomfield College at the Hennessy Center at 7pm.
