WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TURNS BACK UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

(12/8/12) The Dominican College women's basketball squad improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after turning back the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 72-58, this afternoon in a CACC game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

(12/8/12) The Dominican College women's basketball squad improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after turning back the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 72-58, this afternoon in a CACC game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The first half was a close battle as the game saw six tied scores and the biggest lead for either team was four points through the first eighteen minutes. Tied at 23-23, the Lady Chargers went on a 7-0 tear, capped off by an and-one play from LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) to give Dominican a 30-23 lead with 1:11 left in the first half.
USciences closed out the half with the final five points to cut the DC lead to 30-27 at the break.
With just under twelve minutes remaining in the second half and the score favoring the Lady Chargers, 40-38, the team went on a 15-2 tear over the next four minutes to claim their biggest lead of the contest, 53-40.
During the run, Dominican hit three three point baskets, two by junior Nicole Welton (Southbury, Conn.) and the other off the hands of freshman Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.). KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) closed out the run with a jumper in the paint. The Devils would cut the lead to seven points with 3:09 left on the clock, but would get no closer as the Lady Chargers went on to the 72-58 victory.
Jentzen led four Lady Chargers in double figures and recorded the double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Guard Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.) finished with 12 points (2-3 from the three point line), while Hathorne added 12 points (6-8 from the charity stripe) and team leading three assists.
Senior Bianca Harris* (Teaneck, N.J.) scored 10 points and eight caroms in the victory.
Dominican is back in action next Sunday as they host St. Michael's College in a non-conference game. Game time is set for 1pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
