WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HANGS ON FOR VICTORY OVER UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN

With the victory Dominican improves to 1-0 overall, while New Haven falls to 0-1 on the season.

Tied early in the first half at 2-2, the Lady Chargers went on a 7-0 run to go up 9-2 with 15:52 left in the first half. New Haven later came back to cut the lead to 16-14, but DC hit back-to-back three point buckets from seniors Chelsea Aronica (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.) to start a 13-1 Lady Charger run and rebuild a 29-15 lead with just over six minutes left before intermission.
New Haven closed out the first half with a 9-3 run to make the score 32-24 at the break.
Lopez paced DC in the first half with nine points, whileKC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) had eight points. Senior forward Bianca Harris* (Teaneck, N.J.) had eight rebounds.
Dominican opened up the second half outscoring New Haven, 7-3 over the first ten points to gain a 12 point advantange (39-27).
DC held a 54-47 lead with 5:15 to go in regulation when New Haven went on a 8-3 run over the next four minutes to tie the contest at 57-all. With New Haven forced to foul, the Lady Chargers came through at the line, going 6-6 over the final 23 seconds to hang on for the 63-59 victory.
Harris led four Lady Chargers in double figures with the game's only double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Lopez finished with 13 points, while Jentzen had 11 points and seven rebounds.
LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) netted 10 points and eight caroms in the victory.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow afternoon against American International College in the finale of the AIC Tip-Off Classic.
