UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES EDGES LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL IN CACC SEMIFINALS

Caldwell, NJ (3/2/12)  The third north division, Dominican College, fell to the fourth seeded Devils of the University of the Sciences, 62-59, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinal contest played at the George R. Newman Center on the campus of Caldwell College.

With the victory University of the Sciences advances to the CACC Championship game against the top seeded Tigers of Holy Family University.

The loss ends the Lady Chargers season at 14-14 overall.

Dominican jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 3:52 of the contest, highlighted by five points from senior Marley Klunk (York, PA).  Later with the game tied for the fourth time at 22-22 with under five minutes to play, Dominican went ahead by four points and held on for a 30-29 advantage at the intermission.

The Devils opened second half play with a 16-3 run over a span of almost six minutes to go up, 45-33.  DC answered back with a 21-5 charge to pull ahead 54-50 with 7:16 on the clock.  An 8-4 spurt by USCI tied the score at 58-58.

A Lady Charger free throw from Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) put DC ahead 59-58, but two Devil free throws and layup saw them push ahead 62-59.

DC had a chance to tie the game at 61-all, but missed a layup opportunity.

All-CACC Third Team selection, Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) led the Chargers with 19 points, shooting 50% from the three point arc and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.

Harris finished with a double-double of 10 points 12 rebounds, while Klunk netted with 10 points and six caroms.
