LADY CHARGERS LOSE TO PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (2/11/12) The Dominican College women's basketball team lost to the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University, 61-60, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center this afternoon. Today was also a special day at Dominican as it was the 11th Annual Sue Heller Memorial Basketball game.
Dominican took an early 12-7 lead but the Rams came back to lead 18-14 with 13:19 to go in the first stanza. A 13-0 charge by DC, started with five straight points from guard Kaity Lent* (Vineland, NJ) gave Dominican their biggest lead of the half 27-18. The Lady Chargers led 34-25 with 3:22 left before the intermission when the Rams scored the final eight points to cut the deficit to 34-33.
The second half was tied 40-40 with under fifteen minutes to go when DC went on a 6-0 spurt to put them up 46-40. Philadelphia once again fought back and the score was later tied at 56-56 with 2:53 to play. A 4-1 run by Dominican, with all four points coming from the charity stripe, rebuilt a 60-57 advantage with a minute and a half left. A Ram free throw brought them within a bucket and-one with nine seconds on the clock sealed the 61-60 victory.
Sophomore KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) came off the bench to lead three Dominican players in double figures with 16 points, adding three steals and five rebounds. Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) and Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) scored 10 points a-piece, while Harris grabbed a team leading eight rebounds in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 11-11 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
During halftime, Dominican College honored the memory of Sue Heller and gave the Annual Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship Award to Harris.
