LOPEZ LEADS LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL TO OVERTIME VICTORY OVER BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (1/10/12) Junior Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) had a career high 28 points to lead the Dominican College women's basketball team to a 66-62 overtime victory over the visiting Bloomfield College Lady Deacons this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on the Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the victory Dominican improves to 6-6 overall and 6-1 in the CACC.
Dominican trailed 52-46 with just over two minutes remaining in the second half when guard Shannon Lavelle* (Floral Park, NY) hit key back-to-back treys to tie the contest at 52-all. DC had two shots to win in regulation, but a missed jumper and layup forced the overtime period.
The Lady Chargers never trailed in overtime, as they began the period with a 10-4 run to pull ahead 62-56. The Lady Deacons hit a three point basket to cut the lead to 64-62 with nine ticks left on the clock, but Lopez sealed the victory with two free throws for the 66-62 win
Lopez led all scorers, while Lavelle finished with 12 points and six assists. KC Jentzen (Nanuet, NY) added six points and six boards off the bench, while Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) grabbed a team leading seven rebounds in the victory.
DC returns to action on January 18th when they travel to Concordia College in a CACC NOrth Division game scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm.
