LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL FALL IN OVERTIME TO WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (2/16/10) The Dominican College women's basketball team lost in overtime to the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 84-81, this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Lady Chargers trailed 41-27 at the intermission and were down 51-41 with 12:59 left in regulation when the DC came alive with a 15-2 run to take a 54-53 lead. Wilmington came back to lead 65-56 with 2:23 to go when the Lady Chargers netted eight unanswered points, started off by back-to-back treys from freshman Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) to pull with in one, 65-64 with under a minute to play.
A Wildcat layup by Shantel Brown (Lakewood, NJ) put them ahead, 67-64 with 0:26 on the clock, but freshman Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) swished a three point basket with 0:04 left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime Dominican held two six-point leads, the last being 79-73 with 2:05 to go, when the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to hold a 80-79 lead. With DC up 81-80 on two free throws from Lavelle, Wilmington used a layup from Brown, followed by two free throws for the 84-81 victory.
Senior Amelia Simmons (Wilmington, DE) led three Wildcats in double-figures with 24 points and six rebounds. Senior Kim Parker (New Castle, DE) came off the bench to net 22 points, going 11-12 from the charity stripe, while Brown finished with 17 points and a game leading seven assists.
Dominican was led by Lopez who netted a career high 24 points, going 6-10 from the three point line, off the bench. Senior Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) netted 15 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Marley Klunk (York, PA) scored 14 points. Sophomore Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) had a team leading seven rebounds in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 10-13 overall and 7-8 in the CACC, while Wilmington improves to 11-11 overall and 8-6 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Thursday when they host Post University in the annual "Think Pink" Game. Game time is set for 6pm on Coach Baxter Court.
