USP EDGES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Philadelphia, PA (1/30/10) The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia edged the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 45-42, this afternoon at the Morgan Arena in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
The Devils opened the game with a 10-5 lead, only to see the Lady Chargers answer back to cut the deficit to 12-11 with 8:55 remaining before the break. USP then went on an 11-1 tear to build up a 23-12 advantage with 5:34 to go, but Dominican was able to cut the lead to 28-22 as both teams headed to the locker room.
DC came out in the second half witha 5-1 spurt to cut the lead to 29-28, but over the span of the next ten minutes the Devils rebuilt a 41-32 lead. Trailing 45-37 with 3:50 to go, the Lady Chargers got a trey from freshman Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) and a jumper from sophomore Marley Klunk (York, PA) to cut the lead to final 45-42 USP victory.
Freshman Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) led Dominican with nine points and five rebounds, while sophomore Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) came off the bench to net seven points and five rebounds. Senior Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) scored seven points and grabbed a team leading six caroms with fellow senior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) contributing six points and four rebounds.
With the loss Dominican falls to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in the CACC, while USP improves to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Caldwell College in a CACC North Division game. Game time is slated for 6pm.
