TOP-SEEDED LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL ADVANCE TO CACC SEMI-FINALS

Orangeburg, NY (3/3/09) The top seeded Dominican College Lady Chargers defeated the fourth-seeded Nyack College Warriors, 71-61 this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Quarter-Final Game on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers opened up the game with an 11-6 run, but the Warriors fought back to trail 13-10 with 10:15 left in the stanza. DC went on a 9-4 spurt (all three point baskets to take a 22-14 lead held on for a 30-25 lead at the break.
Nyack came out in the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 33-32 lead with 16:43 left in the game, but DC fought back with a quick 5-0 advantage to regain a 37-33 lead and never looked back as they went on to the 71-61 victory.
Nyack shot 40.0% (22-55) from the floor for the game and went 14-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe, while Dominican shot 37.7% (23-61) from teh floor and were 17-22 (77.3%) from the free throw line.
The Warriors had three players in double-figures led by sophomore forward Victoria Sweet (Harlem, NY) with 15 points and had six rebounds. Junior Jasmine Minter (Richmond, VA) netted 14 points and had a game leading eight assists, while junior Shelly Yount (Belvidere, NJ) had the game's only double-double with 12 points and 13 boards.
All five starters of the Lady Chargers ended in double figures as freshman guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) had a career high 15 points (going 4-4 from the three point line). Senior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) and junior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) each had 13 points, with Sainten adding a team leading seven assists. Senior center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) netted 12 points and grabbed a team leading nine rebounds and junior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) had 11 points in the win.
With the victory Dominican improves to 17-11 overall, while Nyack falls to 14-13 overall. The top-seeded Lady Chargers advance to the CACC Semi-Finals hosted by Philadelphia University on March 6th.
