DOMINICAN'S CHAMBERS PICKS UP WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
New Haven, CT (2/16/09) Althea Chambers of Dominican College has picked up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 15. Evebonee Acosta of Goldey-Beacom College claimed Rookie of the Week accolades.

New Haven, CT (2/16/09) Althea Chambers of Dominican College has picked up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 15. Evebonee Acosta of Goldey-Beacom College claimed Rookie of the Week accolades.
Chambers, a 5-7 senior guard who hails from Yonkers, NY, averaged 35.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per-game in two outings last week. She tallied 43 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a triple-overtime loss at Philadelphia on Saturday. Furthermore, she tallied 27 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Bloomfield. She shot 58.8-percent (20-for-34) from the field and 92.9-percent (26-for-28) from the charity stripe for the week.
Acosta, a 5-4 freshman guard from Hartford, CT, averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per-game in a 1-1 week for the Lightning. She recorded 20 points, five assists and two steals in a victory over Felician.

Amanda Brennan, Philadelphia (Sr., G, 5-6, Stratford, NJ) - Averaged 26.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per-game in a 1-1 week.
Amelia Simmons, Wilmington (Jr., F, 5-11, Wilmington, DE) - Recorded averages of 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game in a 2-0 week.
Catherine Carr, Holy Family (So., F, 5-11, Bernardsville, NJ) - Notched 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game in a 2-0 week.
Dee Varley, Georgian Court (Jr., G, 6-0, Little Egg Harbor, NJ) - Averaged 15.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per-game in a 2-1 week for the Lions.
CACC Notes
Chestnut Hill - Junior forward Jenna Beck recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Georgian Court University. She followed that performance with a season-high 24 points in the win over Post University. She is the Griffins' leading-scorer this season with 10.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
Georgian Court - The Lions have won six of their last seven
contests, including their first five-game winning streak as a
member of NCAA Division II. The Lions' 12-13 record is the club's
best record as a NCAA Division II program.
Holy Family - Holy Family clinched the CACC Southern Division
after winning games over Chestnut Hill (78-34) and Caldwell (66-51)
last week. Forward Catherine Carr led the team in scoring in both
games (14 vs. CHC and 21 at Caldwell). Carr is now 118 points away
from the 1,000 career points. Guard Lauren Peters dished out 13
assists (6 vs. CHC and 7 at Caldwell) during the last week. The
Tigers extended its current winning streak to 16 games and have won
62 games against CACC competition since the 2006-07 CACC title
game. Nationally, Holy Family is second in scoring defense (46.7
ppg allowed), third in field goal defense (32.1 percent) and
turnovers per game (14.0), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2)
and ninth in scoring margin (+19.5). Last week, the Tigers remained
fourth in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings. This week,
Holy Family closes out its road schedule with contests at
Wilmington (Del.) (Tuesday) and Bloomfield (Saturday).
Nyack - Nyack got its first win over an NCAA Division II Top 25 nationally-ranked team on Feb. 10 when the Warriors defeated #18 University of the District of Columbia, 49-46. Nyack has surpassed its win total from last year and has won five of its last seven games.
Philadelphia - Senior guard Amanda Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) sunk a career-high 39 points on Senior Day to lead her Lady Rams (16-8, 11-4 CACC) to a 114-104 triple-overtime victory over Dominican College. The game set several records including: the first triple-overtime contest played on Herb Magee Court, the highest-scoring game in CACC history (Division II era), and most points by a team in a single game in the CACC (previously 108). Amanda's sister-Kate Brennan hit her only three-ball of the afternoon with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 71-71 and send it into overtime. She finished with a season-high 21 points and career-high 10 boards, while Jess Romano had a typical day in the office with 29 points, 11 boards and five assists.
USP - Junior Erin Chesnavich (Pittston, Pa.) recorded her 14th double-double of the season in USP's win vs. Goldey Beacom. Chesnavich moved into 12th place on the Devils all-time scoring list with her 20 point performance vs. UDC, giving her 1,078 for her career and passing teammate Allison Weiss (Springfield, Pa.) who has 1,068. Both Chesnavich and Weiss moved up the ladder on USP's career rebounding list as well. Weiss moved into fourth place and now has 817 for her career, while Chesnavich moved into 7th place and has 628 career rebounds. Chesnavich also became just the 4th USP women's basketball player to record 100 career blocks, recording two on the week to give her 101 for her career. In the most recent NCAA statistics poll (as of 2/8), Chesnavich is ranked in three different categories, 13th in FG% (56.6%); 24th in rebounding (10.1) and 64th in scoring (16.7). Weiss is ranked 11th in FT% (90.1%). As a team, the Devils are ranked 42nd nationally in free throw percentage (74.3%) and 34th in scoring defense, allowing 58.7 points per-game.
