WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS CALDWELL COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (1/29/09)  The Dominican College women's basketball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College, 82-73 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The game was tied six times in the first half before the Lady Chargers rounded out the final 3:54 with a 10-3 spurt to take a 33-26 lead.

DC never trailed in the second half, although the Cougars started things off with a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 39-38 with 16:13 remaining.  Dominican rebuilt a six point advantage with 14:22 to go and never looked back en route to the 82-73 victory.

Sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) led all scorers with 29 points, going 10-10 from the charity stripe.  Guards Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ) and Kaitlyn Lamert (Cumberland, RI) each had 15 points, while Lynch added a team leading nine rebounds and six assists.  Lynea Blue (Jersey City, NJ) came off the bench to net 10 points and six boards in the loss.

The Lady Chargers had three of five starters in double digits, led by senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) with 18 points, a team leading nine caroms and four assists.  Junior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) scored 17 points, while center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) had 12 points in the win.  Sophomore guard Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) exploded off the bench for 12 points, shooting 6-7 from the floor and forward Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) had seven rebounds and four steals in 22 minutes.

Dominican improves to 11-8 overall and 8-1 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 7-10 overall and 5-2 in the CACC.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in CACC women's action.  Game time is set for 1pm.
