HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY CLAIMS BATTLE OF DIVISION LEADERS
Philadelphia, PA (1/20/09) In a battle of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) division leaders, Holy Family University defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 49-25 this evening at the Campus Center.
Philadelphia, PA (1/20/09) In a battle of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) division leaders, Holy Family University defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 49-25 this evening at the Campus Center.
The Tigers held the Lady Chargers to just ten points in the first half as DC shot just 16.0% (4-25) from the floor in the first half and went 0-8 from the three point line. Holy Family shot 28.6% (6-21) in the first half as they held a 24-10 lead at the break. Catherine Carr led the Tigers with 12 points and six rebounds in the first half.
Dominican continued to struggle in the second half as they shot just 16.1% (5-31) from the floor but did improve slightly from the three point line as they went 3-14 (21.4%). DC shot 80% from the charity stripe, going 4-5.
Holy Family University shot 81.3% (13-16) from the free throw line and finished the game shooting 33.% (18-54) from the floor. The Tigers went 0-11 from the three point line, while the Lady Chargers shot 13.6% (3-22).
Senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) led Dominican with seven points.
Carr led the Tigers with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Christine McCollum grabbed 10 caroms in the win.
With the victory Holy Family University improves to 14-4 overall and 7-0 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 8-8 overall and 5-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they host Post University in CACC women's basketball action. Game time is set for 1pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
