ROTIO NETS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AS LADY CHARGERS DEFEAT LADY DEVILS

Blauvelt, NY (12/21/07)  Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) netted her 1,000th career point in leading the Dominican College Lady Chargers past the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils, 65-58 this afternoon in a non-conference game at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

Rotio netted her 1,000th career point with 7:53 remaining in the game on a three point bucket off the assist by junior Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) to extend the Dominican lead to 50-42.   Rotio netted seven points in the first half en route to a 19 point (4-8), six rebound and three assist performance in the win.

The Lady Chargers held a 31-26 lead at the half, going on a 7-2 run to end the period.  DC led by as mine as nine points in the second half, when USP cut the lead to 59-56 on two free throws by Allison Weiss with 1:01 left.  Rotio went 6-6 from the charity stripe in the final thirty seconds and shot 9-10 overall from the line.

Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) scored 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while senior Kristen Tracey (Bronx, NY) netted 10 points and six rebounds in the win.  Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) came off the bench to score five points and five rebounds.

Two USP players recorded double-doubles, led by Erin Chesnavich with 21 points (8-14 from the floor) and 10 rebounds.  Weiss finished with 16 points and a game leading 14 rebounds in the loss.

Dominican out rebounded USP 17-8 on the offensive end, while the Devils held a 38-37 advantage in total rebounds.  The Devils committed 31 turnovers in the loss leading to 25 points for the Lady Chargers.  

With the win, DC improves to 6-2 overall while the Devils fall to  2-6.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Friday, December 28th when they travel to Pace University in a non-conference game.  Game time 2pm.
