DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS DEFEAT DOWLING COLLEGE

Oakdale, NY (11/20/07) The Golden Lions fell, 78-61, to the Chargers of Dominican College in their home opener on November 20.  Dowling evens their record to 1-1 on the season while the Chargers remain undefeated with a 3-0 record.

The teams battled back and forth in the first seven minutes of play tying the game six times.  Molly Tubridy (Broad Channel, NY) knotted the game with a jumper in the 13:00th minute with a jumper but Jasmine Schinella grabbed a Charger lead on a free throw.  The Chargers rallied for an eleven point unanswered run and Dowling was unable to catch up as they went into the locker room down 31-42.

The Golden Lions were able to inch within 8 points as Michelle Yawn (Walker, LA) opened the second half scoring, but the Chargers would balloon the lead to as much as 24 before setting for a 78-61 victory.

Dowling kept up the Chargers in the second half as they put up 30 points to Dominican’s 36.  Nikkeia Daniels (North Brentwood, MD) led the way for the Golden Lions with 15 points while Yawn followed with 13 points including four long ones.  Tubridy rounded out the Golden Lions double digit scorers with 11 and teamed up with Yawn for a team high 7 rebounds apiece.

Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) notched a double double, leading her team with game highs in both points (16) and rebounds (13).  Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) connected for 15 each with Kristen Tracy (Bronx, NY) was 3-for-7 from beyond the arc for a total of 11 points.

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday, December 1st when they host Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at 1pm.
