DOMINICAN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS BERTH IN NCAA NORTHEAST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Blauvelt, NY (3/10/08)  The Dominican College women's basketball team will be the sixth seed in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournament, as was announced by the NCAA on Sunday night.

The Lady Chargers will face Frankin Pierce University in the opening round of the tournament which will take place on Friday, March 14th in the Campus Center on the campus of the top seed in the Northeast Region and fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member Holy Family University Tigers.

Dominican, led by seventh year head coach John Burke, enters the tournament with a 22-8 record.  This past Saturday, the Lady Chargers lost in the CACC Championship Game to Holy Family University.  This will be the first NCAA appearance in program history for the Lady Chargers.

Franklin Pierce University earned the third seed in the Northeast Region and will come into tournament play with a    24-5 overall record.  The Ravens lost in the semi-finals of the Northeast-10 Tournament to Bryant University.  Johannah Leedham leads the Ravens with 22.2 ppg and 6.6 rpg.  Jennifer Leedham is netting 11.0 ppg.

DC currently has three players in double figure scoring, led by junior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY), an CACC Honorable Mention pick this season, with 12.3 ppg and 6.8 rpg.  Sophomore forward and CACC Second Team selection, Adele Laskowski who hails from Wayne, NJ, is netting 12.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg and senior point guard Dana Rotio, another CACC Second Team member from Garfield, NJ, is averaging 11.4 ppg, 3.7 apg and 3.2 spg.  She currently leads the CACC in steals (97).

The winner of this game will advance to the Northeast Semifinals which will be held on Saturday, March 15th.  The Northeast Region Championship will be held on Monday, March 17th at 7pm.  The Northeast Region winner will go on to the NCAA Elite Eight that will be held in Kearney, Nebraska beginning March 26th through March 29th.
