Philadelphia, PA (3/8/08) The Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated Dominican College today, 68-52, to earn its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Tournament Championship. Holy Family freshman Catherine Carr was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Tigers never lost lead in the game and by as many as twelve points early in the first half.  The Lady Chargers were able to cut the lead to six two times in the first stanza, but Holy Family University was able to build the lead back up to nine points (32-23) at the intermission.

With 8:21 remaining in regulation, the Tigers had built a commanding 62-41 lead after sophomore center Christine McCollum (Abington, PA) connected on a three point basket.  DC was able to cut the lead to 14 points late in the game, but couldn't get any closer as the Tigers claimed the victory.

Holy Family held Dominican to 32.2-percent (19-of-59) shooting from the field and shot 45.8-percent (22-for-48) en route to the victory. Holy Family is now 30-0 overall this season, while Dominican falls to 22-8.

McCollum led the Tigers with 24 points, nine rebounds on two steals in the contest, while senior point guard Kelly Killion added 17 points and five assists.

Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) paced Dominican with 17 points and eight boards.  Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) chipped in 14 points (5-8 from the charity stripe) and four rebounds.

Dominican awaits a berth in the NCAA Tournament.  The selection show can be seen at www.ncaa.com which begins at 10:30 pm tomorrow night.
