#1 DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS DOWN #2 WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDATS
Blauvelt, NY (3/5/08) The top seeded in the North Division Dominican College Lady Chargers advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship game after downing Wilmington University, the second seed in the South Division, 74-46 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Dominican took control of the game early after starting the game with a 21-4 run. The Lady Chargers took advantage of 22 Wildcat turnovers with 15 steals and 22 points in the first stanza. WU out shot DC 45.5% (10-22) to 40.0% (14-35). Junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) led Dominican with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals in the first half while Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) each had four steals.
The Lady Chargers continued to stay hot in the second half after going on a 17-3 run to take a 51-24 lead with 12:10 remaining. With under ten minutes to go, DC led by 35 points (65-30) en route to the 74-46 victory. The Wildcats shot just 25.0% (6-24) in the second half, while the Lady Chargers shot 55.2% (16-29).
Sophomore Amelia Simmons (Wilmington, DE) led the Wildcats with 13 points. Senior Nordia Henry (Philadelphia, PA) had a game leading 13 rebounds to go with eight points in the loss.
Laskowski led the Lady Chargers with 15 points and four
steals. Chambers finished with 13 points,
four boards and three steals. Junior Shalissa Burgess
(Englewood, NJ) chipped in 12 points and
Rotio netted 11 points, five assists and four
steals in the win.
With the win, Dominican improves to 22-7 overall and advances to the CACC Championships, while Wilmington ends drops to 20-9.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday in the CACC Finals. Game time will be 2pm where the Lady Chargers will take on the top seed in the South Division and ranked fourth in the country, Holy Family University.
